Senior Data Engineer / Data Lead – €85.000 – €105.000 | Utrecht / Hybrid

Our client is building a compact, high-impact data team to reduce reliance on external consultants. The company has a clear growth strategy and data plays a crucial role in improving internal operations, platform performance, and strategic decision-making.

As Senior Data Engineer / Data Lead, you’ll take ownership of the data architecture, coordinate a small team, and ensure that data becomes a true strategic asset. You’ll be highly visible in the business, with direct influence on both the technical roadmap and organizational maturity.

Job description

• Own and evolve the data architecture (Azure-based pipelines and warehouse)

• Translate business projects into technical solutions and distribute work among engineers

• Coordinate 2 external engineers and take the lead on work division and quality

• Act as the key liaison for stakeholders: provide clarity, manage the backlog, ensure transparency

• Oversee data quality, monitoring, and performance; ensure reliable delivery to dashboards & tools

• Contribute to and sometimes build Power BI reports and visualizations

• Champion innovation: new tooling, forecasting models, data governance improvements

• Shape the culture and maturity of the internal data function as it scales

Requirements

• 6–10 years of experience in data engineering, BI, or architecture

• Proven ability to coordinate work and manage stakeholders

• Strong technical foundation: Azure, SQL, ETL/ELT, Power BI

• Proactive communicator who pulls questions, doesn’t wait for assignments

• Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus)

• Living in the Netherlands and available in Utrecht 2 days/week

• Valid EU work permit required — no sponsorship
